PS5 Remote Play outside your home network
Playing your PS5 from another network, such as a friend’s place, a hotel or your phone’s hotspot, means your computer has to reach the console over the internet. Home routers don’t let outside connections in by default, so each Remote Play app solves this in its own way. This page compares them, checked on 25 October 2026.
| App | Away from home | PSN sign-in | Router changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sony PS Remote Play | Yes | Yes | Not mentioned by Sony |
| chiaki-ng, remote connection via PSN | Yes | Yes | No, on supported networks |
| chiaki-ng, manual remote connection | Yes | Not mentioned | Port forwarding |
| PXPlay | Yes | Not mentioned in its listing | Its own setup instructions |
| Orbit Play 0.5.0 | Yes | No | No |
Sony’s PS Remote Play app
- It uses your PSN account. Sony’s guide says: “Sign in with the same account that you use for your PS5 console.”
- Speed: Sony recommends upload and download speeds of “at least 5 Mbps”, and “at least 15 Mbps” for best performance.
- Test at home first: “Before trying to connect remotely from outside your home, check that your device connects properly while you’re near your PS5 console.”
chiaki-ng
chiaki-ng’s remote connection guide offers two ways:
- Remote connection via PSN. It “uses PSN servers as an initial go-between” and “requires you to login to PSN to generate an auth token”. It warns: “Not all network types are supported by UDP holepunching.”
- Manual remote connection. You give the console a fixed address on your network and forward its ports on your router: for a PS5, 9295 (UDP and TCP), 9296, 9297 and 9302 (UDP). If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT), the guide says port forwarding won’t work because the provider controls the router.
- If neither works, the guide says “you will need to setup a VPN on your home network to connect”.
It also notes that remote play is IPv4 only.
PXPlay
PXPlay’s App Store listing says it “works over Wi-Fi or mobile data” and links to the developer’s instructions for playing over the internet. “Registration must be performed on the same network as your console.”
Offline and jailbroken PS5 profiles
The PSN routes above need the console’s account to sign in to PSN. A local profile that has never been linked to PSN has no account to sign in with, so those routes don’t apply to it. Port forwarding and a VPN at home don’t need PSN, but they need access to your router, and port forwarding doesn’t work behind carrier-grade NAT.
With Orbit Play
Since 0.5.0, Orbit Play has play away from home. You turn it on once at home, or set it up from anywhere with a one-time code from the PS5, and Start playing then works over the internet.
- No PSN sign-in and no router changes. The computer and the PS5 connect directly, encrypted end to end. Orbit Play’s server only introduces them and doesn’t relay the stream.
- Phone hotspots. On networks that change ports, Orbit Play tries many ports at once for a few seconds. That worked in our tests with the PS5 on a phone hotspot and an Apple Silicon Mac. Some hotel, school and office networks still block direct connections.
- Keep the PS5 ready. It must stay on, not in Rest Mode, with the jailbreak loaded and the Orbit Play helper running. Orbit Play can’t wake it from Rest Mode yet.
